GETTING TO KING LEAR

The performance space for King Lear is in the Fine Arts College building at Boston University, 855 Commonwealth Ave. It is the first building west of the BU bridge on the north side of Comm. Ave., five stories, gray limestone façade. There are three entrances; use the one in the center. Inside, the entrance to the theater is immediately on the right.

Parking:

There is onstreet parking on both sides of that part of Comm. Ave., though competition us usually keen. Offstreet pay parking is available behind the John Hancock Village, off Buick St., first right west of the Fine Arts building, toward the river, or behind the Agganis Arena, second right, off Harry Agganis Way.

Public Transportation:

T: Take the Green Line B train to Boston University West, directly in front of 855 Comm. Ave.

By Car:

From the west, southwest, and northwest, get on the Massachusetts Turnpike from 95-128 or other more westerly points. Follow the Pike to the Cambridge exit, and follow signs to Storrow Drive eastbound, staying to the right. From Storrow Drive, take the first Brookline exit, just after you pass under the BU bridge; you will be on the BU campus. Go one block to Commonwealth Avenue. Turn right. Go straight through the large, busy intersection (do not turn right again or you will cross the river). The theater is in the first building on the right. Offstreet parking is further on, of Buick St. (first right) or Harry Agannis Way (second right).

To return, get on Commonwealth Avenue east, toward downtown; follow the signs for Route 2, to Cambridge. You will loop around and come out headed for the bridge. Cross the river, and take the traffic circle 3/4 of the way around to the left to get on Memorial Drive west. Go to the second set of lights, River Street, and turn left, to cross the river again. Follow signs for I-90, the Turnpike.

From the northeast, southeast, or south take I-93 to the exit for Storrow Drive. From Storrow Drive, exit at Fenway. Follow signs for Kenmore Square. Stay to the right, and beyond Kenmore Square, you will be on Commonwealth Avenue. Pass the large buildings of BU, past the entrance to the BU bridge (signs for Cambridge); the theater will be in the first building on the right. Offstreet parking is further on, past Agannis Arena.

To get back to I-93, get on Commonwealth Avenue eastbound, toward downtown. Just beyond Kenmore Square (Hotel Commonwealth on the right), get into the left lane, and watch for signs for Storrow Drive east. Once on the drive, follow signs for I-93. Left lane for north, right for south.
