As Strange a Maze As E’er Men Trod…
Prospero (Alvin Epstein)
|
Prospero, former Duke of Milan, has miraculously escaped to a deserted island after being usurped by his treacherous brother. In his refuge, Prospero has raised his daughter, Miranda, and continued to study the art of magic, aided by his servants, the “airy spirit” Ariel and the monstrous Caliban. When he is given the opportunity to use his magic to bring those who robbed him of his dukedom to justice, he must choose between forgiveness and revenge.
The magic of theater to turn the ordinary into revelation lies at the heart ofThe Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s last plays. Featuring the legendary actor Alvin Epstein as Prospero, and reuniting the creative team behind ASP’s acclaimed production of King Lear: director Patrick Swanson and scenic designer David R. Gammons. In creating this captivating production, Swanson will use a cast of twelve, playing within the framework of a music hall magician and his bag of tricks. |
