Community Night: Miss Conduct Tames the Shrew

Boston Globe blogger Robin Abrahams and the Actors’ Shakespeare Project present a Community Night at the Zebra Room at Upstairs on the Square.

Robin Abrahams will read from her new book, Mind Over Manner: Master the Slippery Rules of Modern Ethics and Etiquette, and a discussion about sex, communication, Petruchio and Kate.

Then attend a 7:30pm performance of ASP’s The Taming of the Shrew at a discounted price of $25.

If can’t attend the show October 15th, you will receive a code to use at one of the matinee dates on 10/24, 10/31, or 11/7 at 3:00pm for the same discounted price.

Join us to explore that most famous of Shrews, Kate, and her arc through the play The Taming of the Shrew through voice, movement and text work. This is an opportunity to explore the nature of the word, and the character, make personal connections and witness each other's work. There is absolutely no experience necessary. Girls of all ages, women of all ages welcome. Bring a friend or an aunt or a mom or a sister and get a discount! Limited space. Sarah Hickler is a performer, director, choreographer and movement specialist. Her solo and group dance/theatre work has been produced throughout New England venues such as The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston Playwrights' Theatre, The Performance Place, Mobius, and Lincoln Center Festival in NYC. She is on the faculty of Emerson College and is the movement designer for ASP's The Taming of the Shrew.

Mara Sidmore is a seasonal company member with Actors' Shakespeare project. A professional actor and theatre educator, Mara holds a BS in Education and an MFA in Acting (American Repertory Theatre's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University/Moscow Art Theatre School) and has trained with Shakespeare & Company. Her passion for theatre and Shakespeare began early, working with a children's theatre company in high school and college which performed Shakespeare, and only Shakespeare, outdoors in the summer. Mara has been on the Theatre Faculty of The Winsor School, Boston Arts Academy, and The Boston Conservatory, and currently teaches acting at Bentley University. She is also the drama coach of FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman at WGBH and works with a wide range of clients of all ages in television, academia, and business.
